About Us

The Hull Yacht Club, founded in 1880, is located directly on Allerton Harbor in Hull, MA. One of the oldest yacht clubs in America, the club has a rich history of yacht racing and cruising. The current membership has a mix of sail, power and social-only members. Allerton Harbor is well protected from all points of the compass. The varied anchorages of the Boston Harbor islands are just minutes away, while many picturesque North and South Shore harbors are an easy weekend cruise.

Racing

During the late 1800’s, catboats dominated the fleet. Since the 1940’s the club has established itself as a dominant force in one design racing. Today, the club is involved in one-design, PHRF and junior sailing. There is a local fleet of Rhodes19’s and International 110’s. Our junior sailors race fleets of N10 (Turnabouts), Optimists, and 420’s. The club hosts a number of One-Design and Junior sailing events during the season. There is also a large group of PHRF sailors. You can almost always jump aboard a boat to crew, or skipper your own boat in the regular Wednesday night series and various Thursday night and weekend races. The Hull Yacht Club also sponsors several PHRF events including the Scorpion Bowl, the Solstice Race, the Flashlight Series, and the club’s signature event: the Great Chase Race , now one of the largest racing events in the Mass Bay area.

Youth Sailing Programs

HYC operates a very successful youth sailing program. Children can start out at a very early age and become proficient at small boat handling and general nautical skills. Young people can move along at individual rates into intermediate and advance programs. Instructions start with the Optimists and progress through to 420’s.The Hull Yacht Club competes in many interclub competitions and has representation at most major youth regattas. The club also sponsors a program during the summer designed to introduce local children to sailing.

A Spirit of Goodfellowship

Members work together in a cooperative spirit, an advantage for new members seeking advice on everything from sail trim to mooring set up and placement. A 2-ton hoist is maintained by the club that can be used to launch and haul small boats and for stepping spars. The Hull Yacht Club is low key and family oriented with young people playing an important role in the membership and activities. This is a member-run club with a strong spirit of volunteerism. While there is a very active racing program, many other members use the club as a base for cruising and powerboating, with groups often forming for weekend trips. Membership rates are reasonable and the facilities are geared for the active boater. Guest moorings are available. We invite you to come for a visit and learn more!
